Episode 9 Round 3: Burgers with Petra & Jake

Contestants Petra and Jake fire up their grills is this challenge to determine who will craft the ultimate burger. But a stellar recipe and lightening-fast cooking skills wont be the only thing these young competitors will need to rely on in order to win this challenge. The kids must make a burger inspired by a specific theme — their favorite monster! And grilling expert Elizabeth Karmel is added to the judges’ panel to help determine who will be the ultimate griller.

Jake already has one golden whisk pinned to his apron, but will his flavorful dragon-themed burger, inspired by his dad’s cooking, be enough to add a second win? And because natural disasters can be monstrous, Petra uses volcanoes as the inspiration behind her spicy cheese-stuffed burger. With no wins yet, Petra’s confident that her burger’s explosion of flavor will help her stay in the game.

Both Jake and Petra have 20 minutes to prepare and cook their burgers to completion. Judges will rate the contestants’ final products based on presentation, cleanliness and flavor. Will these two be able to get creative in the kitchen without making a mess or sacrificing taste?

Episode 6 Round 2: Rapidfire Skills Challenge – Cherry Smoothie with Petra & Alessandra

Precision and speed are the focus of this episode. Petra and Alessandra must each pit 25 cherries and use them to whip up a cherry yogurt smoothie in less than 10 minutes. However, each girl’s cleaning skills are put to the test. There must be no trace of cherry juice on their white cutting boards by the time the clock runs out. The first one to make a smoothie wins a golden whisk.

Will Petra’s clean as you go strategy prove to be more efficient than Alessandra’s method of pitting cherries first and cleaning up her mess at the end? Petra is going for her first whisk win and is determined to succeed, but Alessandra is enthusiastic and ready to cook.

Will Gabe and Petra be able to successfully replicate Chef John Besh’s zesty ravigote sauce? In this challenge, each contestant is given all 7 necessary ingredients are and they have only 10 minutes to figure out how much of each is needed to make this classic French sauce. This specific challenge is meant to test each contestant’s sense flavor balance as they show off their culinary skills.

Whichever sauce is the closest in flavor to Chef John Besh’s master creation will earn a golden whisk and move one step closer to earning the coveted title of Superchef Kid.
