Episode 9 Round 3: Burgers with Petra & Jake

Contestants Petra and Jake fire up their grills is this challenge to determine who will craft the ultimate burger. But a stellar recipe and lightening-fast cooking skills wont be the only thing these young competitors will need to rely on in order to win this challenge. The kids must make a burger inspired by a specific theme — their favorite monster! And grilling expert Elizabeth Karmel is added to the judges’ panel to help determine who will be the ultimate griller.

Jake already has one golden whisk pinned to his apron, but will his flavorful dragon-themed burger, inspired by his dad’s cooking, be enough to add a second win? And because natural disasters can be monstrous, Petra uses volcanoes as the inspiration behind her spicy cheese-stuffed burger. With no wins yet, Petra’s confident that her burger’s explosion of flavor will help her stay in the game.

Both Jake and Petra have 20 minutes to prepare and cook their burgers to completion. Judges will rate the contestants’ final products based on presentation, cleanliness and flavor. Will these two be able to get creative in the kitchen without making a mess or sacrificing taste?

Episode 5 Round 2: Rapidfire Skills Challenge – Cupcakes with Gabe and Jake

It’s a frosting battle to determine whose sweet confection will take the cake. Gabe and Jake must whip up a batch of cupcake frosting, fill a pastry bag, perfectly pipe frosting onto at least 6 cupcakes and add decoration all in less than 15 minutes. Jake hasn’t made cupcakes in months, yet remains confident that his blue frosting will trump Gabe’s red. And this challenge isn’t so sweet when Gabe encounters some trouble, but will he pull through? And don’t forget, contestants must keep their cooking areas clean.

Chefs Sanchez and Besh will judge each set of cupcakes based on professional appearance, frosting technique and decoration. The winner will earn himself a golden whisk. Jake must win his first golden whisk in order to stay in the running and Gabe, who already holds a whisk, is looking for a second victory.

Episode 1 Round 1: Rapidfire Tasting Challenge – Pesto with Jake & Alessandra

Young chefs Alessandra and Jake go head to head in the Superchef Kids kitchen where they must recreate Chef Aaron Sanchez’s Latin-inspired pesto. In order to develop and refine their pallets to match that of a professional chef, Alessandra and Jake must first taste Chef Sanchez’s version of pesto and recreate his unique recipe using 7 of 14 possible ingredients.

From basil, pine nuts and garlic to pepitas, cilantro and jalapenos, the combination of ingredients is endless. These culinary kids must hone their taste buds and get creative to build the perfect pesto.
